Overview

Catholic Eldercare is seeking a FT cook for our Long Term Care facility. This position will work 10:30am-6:30/7pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and every other Saturday AND Sunday. The position will require an alternating holiday expectation. 

 

The Cook is responsible for preparing meals in accordance with state and federal regulations, established menus, dietary guidelines, and nutritional standards. This role also involves fostering positive interactions with residents, their families, and team members.

Catholic Eldercare is a community of residential facilities in Northeast Minneapolis offering services in assisted living, independent living, skilled nursing, memory care, transitional care and adult day services.

 

Responsibilities

The Cook will:
1. Prepare meals based on planned menus, considering dietary restrictions, nutritional needs, and portion requirements
2. Read, interpret, and follow standardized recipes accurately.
3. Consistently act in a responsible, professional manner, serving as a positive example to other staff.
4. Serve as lead kitchen staff in charge if supervisor is not in building.
5. Rotate and store food supplies. Label and date all items that are prepared or opened.
6. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, including pots, pans, sinks, stoves, ovens, refrigerator, per expectations.
7. Monitor and record food temperatures and refrigerator temps to ensure food safety.
8. Be available for feedback and respond to likes and dislikes of residents.
9. Coordinate with other dining staff on special menus for holidays or events.
10. Other duties as needed to maintain dining operations.

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Two years of cooking experience in a commercial kitchen
• ServSafe Certification or ability to complete within 6 months of start of employment.
• Must have intermediate to advanced skills in written and spoken English.
• Must be able to pass NetStudy background check.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Understanding of dietary modifications for Senior Living facilities
• Participation in a culinary certification or culinary education program.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose best solution and solve problems.
• Show attention to detail with concern for quality and safety.
• Demonstrated ability to complete tasks independently.
• Ability to effectively communicate with residents, families, coworkers, vendors, and others that may have varying socioeconomic, cultural, and educational differences.

 

Additional Work Context:

The Cook must use online ordering, phone, and face-to-face communication with individuals and teams.

The Cook should promptly respond to requests or needs of the Dining Director, the Operations Director, and other staff that may have immediate concerns to ensure continued operation of the kitchens.  

The Cook must stand, walk, stoop, bend, hear, smell, taste be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is often noisy. Ear protection is provided but may not mitigate all noise.  

Steam and fumes from cooking appliances are all potential odors found in the workplace. Protective and safety equipment is provided to protect workers.
